mind vs taste buds

okay, its just past 8am on new year’s day.

*looks out the window across the street at the golden arches*  i want mcdonald’s for brekky.

where in the HECK did this notion (craving?) come from??!?! (ruh roh, must have been the snack wrap i had yesterday?!  those MSGs are workin me!)

i think something clicked in my fast-food deprived brain and said, “WAIT! today’s the day she’s really kicking in with the no wheat/gluten and eating healthy!  we cant let her ruin it for us…ATTACK!!” *LOL*

hubby’s still in bed and my tummy’s growling.  i’m really supposed to take a couple supplements and wait an hour to eat, but i’m not sure that’s going to happen.

now how come ive been SO GOOD for the last week and now all the sudden i wanna go and screw it all up?  *CRIES*  GAK!!! i hate days like this!  it’s a horrible mind vs taste buds battle!!

so what will i do—let myself eat what i want today and start tomorrow?  not beat myself up and just chalk up the loss?

or will i stick to my guns and fight through the craving?

see, this is always my problem.  this is the beginning of a BAD cycle that’s hard to stop.  i think its more mental than physiological…it’s my perfectionistic against my “all in moderation” alter ego.

neither one usually wins.  i usually go WAY off the deep end and be a total glutton!

why today?  i know i’ll just feel like crap, but that never stops me.  why am i possessed like this? ROTFL!  am i the only one in the world who is so obsessed about these things??

dangit i try so hard but my will is so fragile :(

somebody come save me!!!

to be continued…

(in my health journal later today!)

  3. Good job you don't have Tim Horton's breakfast sammiches to crave. They rock. McDonalds? Bleagh.

  4. Oh oh! I hope your mind wins. I had to give up the wheat/gluten thing almost three years now. I have Celiac. Talk about insult to injury. Every now and then I wan't a juicy fast food burger or some chicken nuggets, but NO! I have to eat rice bread...yum.

btw, i like it that you call them 'sammiches.' that is what they REALLY should be called, because that's what i call em. all the COOLEST ppl say sammiches. teehee ;)

  8. Hint...if you get hungry drink a ton of water. It may help. If it doesn't you'll feel drowned and sick...bye goes the hunger pains. Drastic but trust me ... it works ;-)

  9. beenzzz...you poor thing!! thankfully i'm pretty sure i dont have celiac, but with the endo i know giving up wheat/gluten will help me. i suppose it helped you with your endo, too (?).
i went for about 3 weeks or so gluten free in 2007 but i quit most dairy at the same time and just couldnt do both. i tried a lot of rice bread, rice EVERYTHING...YUCK! i got SO SICK of rice taste! ive done a lot of experimenting with diff gluten-free mixes and flours and have found ones that i like better.
hopefully a few years from now i can have the will-power you have!!

  10. hahah! hey jd, i've actually heard that many times when we "think" we're hungry, we're actually a tad bit dehydrated, and our body is trying to tell us to consume something. i think youre supposed to drink a few cups of water and wait 10 min and see how ya feel.
so your suggestion is quite valid and it works, im sure...however i rarely do it because i just get on this one track junk food mind! :\ so for the record, the next time this happens I WILL try the water first! :P

  11. Sister, I am joining you in the "treat my body right" crusade in 2008! Let's do it! I'm so inspired by the show "The Biggest Loser"...it makes me want to go to the gym and to take better care of myself. So, Hubs and I joined the same gym and we get out of bed and go together, which really helps...having a workout partner.
Happy New Year and you go, girl!

  12. hey starshine!! i just finished watching last nite's biggest loser. wow. strangely the ONE thing that sticks out in my mind most was how the sweat was literally dripping off their faces in the workouts. i havent sweat like that in a LONG time! i have so much respect for anyone there who doesnt quit!
funny...ken and i decided to cancel our gym membership on the last day of 2007. LOL! we hadnt been going; it was a waste of money. so now, we're doing yoga at home together and will start doing some cardio/weight training vids. TOGETHER. this is a very cool set up!! you're right--having a partner makes ALL the difference!

  13. Timmie's (that's what us Canucks call it) is primarily a donut shop, but got in on the breakfast sammich thing, and now also serves crappy soup and sammiches, but not too bad chili. their breakfast sammich makes me forgive them all the rest. Oh! Most folks think their coffee is addictive. It started out with coffee and donuts. It's a Canadian institution, even more than Canadian Tire.

  14. witchyp--i actually looked up the timmie's website this morning. LOL! their breakfast bagel sammich looks NUMMMYY! it totally cracked me up, tho...they say their sammiches are made with "processed cheese." ROTFL! i mean, we know its processed...but it was so funny they chose to use THAT adjective. teehee!

  17. You are not alone Josey. Just last night I was craving for a slice of banoffee pie......... I kept saying this to myself, 'A moment on the lips, forever on the hips' LOL.......
Don't give in to that urge!!!! I'm sure your will is much stronger than you think ;)

  18. ivy, you're so right! our will IS a lot stronger than we think. its just easier (lazier? hehe) to not have to put forth the effort in resisting. unfortunately i DID give in that day. however, since then i have been a good lil girl and even lost 2lb last week! YAY!
i'm going to remember your "lips to hips" saying tho! hehe! what's banoffee pie? :)
