hey YOUS! LOL :P
so the other day, for the heck of it, i googled sillygolucky. i saw me…meee…meeeeee…and, more me. LOL. so i’m the ONLY sillygolucky ever?? i actually thought of it first??
NOPE.
finally, on page 3 of my search results, i found a website in Japanese featuring sillygolucky. “wow!” i thought, “they love me in Japan??”
LOL.
NOPE.
i did a little research…
which led me to discover that in Japan, sillygolucky is a comedy sketch show, like SNL or mad TV! KEWL!!
which then…led me to learn of an apparently famous song which originated from SGL. it’s called Yatta!, sung by Happa-tai (a made-up comedic Japanese boy band in SGL…and apparently these men are famous comedians in Japan as well).
oh, and “yatta” is a japanese exclamation that means “it’s done!” or “i did it!”
anyhoo, here’s the group in all their “leaf squad” glory. (happa-tai translates exactly as leaf squad, however they all themselves the “green leaves.” LOL!)
interesting crew, dontcha think? LOL!!!
these guys do, however, serve a bit of a “purpose.” here’s a blurb from the wiki link:
The sketch is a strongly ironic commentary on attempts by the Japanese government and others to maintain optimism in the face of Japan’s severe economic troubles, depicting men impoverished to the degree of having no clothing but the figurative fig leaf (though in this case the leaves are attached to the men’s briefs) yet maintaining an irrational, irrepressible belief in their own potential for success. The sketch satirizes many of the stereotypes of Japanese pop culture, including such tropes as a romantic interlude during the song’s bridge that takes place on a city street filled with floating sakura blossoms.
so then i thought, well, why not watch the video if it’s so famous?
so THEN…(yes, there’s MORE!)…that led me to watch a flash animation called Irrational Exuberance, which, as you’ll recognize, utilized the quite catchy disco-y tune of Yatta!. (click the link—no You Tube this time.)
(WARNING: this flash contains a small amount of foul language and pixelated pictures not suitable for children or those who may take offense!! i do not in any way endorse these portions. LOL.)
and, if you can stand it, you really need to watch it 2 or 3 times to get all the funny pop culture references.
*BLINX*BLINX* *giggle*
i’m kinda freaked out.
i actually. kindasorta. enjoyed. that video. it got me giggling, especially when i saw PaRappa the Rappa, Colin Mochrie and “i cant believe its not yatta!”! hahaha…
it reminded me of these (what i thought were) workout videos they always show on E’s The Soup. now i’ve learned they are actually videos to help Japanese folks learn English. HAHAH!! they make me laugh!
some people really do have WAY too much time on their hands. but sadly, its sometimes entertaining. hehe!
and i cant get Yatta! outta my head!!
ROTFL!
happy weekend!!

I was mildly annoyed to find what I thought was a bogus witchypoo on Motime. Then I remembered I had set it up in order to comment on a friend's blog. It's sometimes embarrassing to be old.
ReplyDeleteHahaha hope they don't sue you for having the same name, lol. Those Japanese shows are just outrageous :)
ReplyDeleteOkay... You've totally lost it! But just to show you I'm sympathetic. I'm buying your husband one of those Leafy Thingy Dos. If he watches the video enough times maybe he can get the dance steps down and the lyrics. Ha.ha. Have a Wonderful 2008. And I don't care how many sillygoluckys come up on google. You're still quite unique. Take Care.
ReplyDeleteLOLOL witchyp!! you're a goofball! its also embarrassing to be YOUNG and do those things...i'm definitely not exempt. teehee :)
ReplyDeleterolando--i wouldnt think they'd sue me; its not like i make money from this site :D besides, why wouldnt they have already used this domain? maybe they will offer me big bucks for it. LOL ;)
ReplyDeleteintrepid--i've never seen my hubby dance. he just doesnt! he doesnt got the groove in his soul...but who knows, maybe the leaves are just what he needs to inspire him. HAHAH!
ReplyDeletehope your new year has started off on the right track and you're happy and healthy :)
Hi Josey,
ReplyDeleteIsn't that something? Luckily I did the same thing and The Uneasy Supplicant doesn't come up anywhere else. As for getting sued ... you won't. Besides, tell them you forgive them for using YOUR name. Unless of course you start using 6 naked Japanese men with fig leaves as your main theme ... then that could be a different story. :-)

I gotta say that the exercise/language training video is about the weirdest thing I've encountered in awhile... I mean, it is peculiar on soooooo many levels.
ReplyDelete-what the heck is the bandit wearing on his head??
-what if I was robbed by three men?
-do I need to remember the dance steps?
sheesh.
Ha haaaaa! Too funny... although the pictures are scaring me and I had to turn my head away. Ohhh no - it's hideous (YEEEEEAHHHH!!!!) Nakid Japanese? hmmm
ReplyDeleteI have a huge competition going with "Speedcat" shoes by Puma. I can usually beat them in a search, which makes them angry with ole Hollydale... that's the beauty of blogging. Messing with shoe sales. Down with Speedcat Shoes!! I say... get Nike.
Dear Josey, I am still behind but did NOT forget your award. Sunday will be a complete blogging blowout after I am released from the Bloggers Intervention Group meeting.
HEEEEE HEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SpeedyCat "Puma" Hollywood
see SEE? Now, don't you wish you were Stayin' Silly, Gettin' Lucky? lol.
ReplyDeleteROTFL...jd...i'm still laughin so hard, thinking of those goofball guys in their leaves...they really did crack me up. mostly because they looked like they were having so much fun! ha!
ReplyDeletei'm glad you stopped by. it's always a pleasure hearing what you have to say!! always!
friendinme--glad to see you! yes, the exercise/language video or whatever the heck it is IS very weerd!! its not as weerd as i thought it was, tho, cause i have seen it many times on The Soup, but they only showed the "exercise" part...so my hubby and i were like, HUH??? LOL.
ReplyDeletei laughed SO HARD when i saw the bandit's headgear--it looks like a backwards dew rag, no? LOL! i suppose it would work--you're too busy looking at IT instead of the bandit's face. ;) LOL.
i think what makes me wonder the most is that the japanese must assume english-speaking men are always gonna do the mugging!?!
speedy--considering some of the things you post on your own blog, im surprised you didnt find those guys to be quite inspirational! LOL!!! ;P
ReplyDeleteTOO FUNNY about puma!! i wonder how mad they'd be if you photoshopped your own make and model of shoes on your blog? hehe.
dont you worry at all about posting that award. take your time! no big deal at all--i know you got it, and that's what matters :D
amy...dont EVEN get me started. teehee. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think we should send Drowsey over those leafy pictures are right up her alley....:)
ReplyDeletelooks like a very amusing show LOL........now I can't get it out of my head haha........
ReplyDeleterobert--you are RIGHT! hopefully she'll come by and visit. actually, i was thinking they might be more right up olga's alley! hehe!
ReplyDeleteivy, i know! the tune is so catchy...it actually makes me smile to bop around the house singing, "yatta! yatta!" hahah! my luck it'll be stuck in my head for a week or two. i hate that! ;D
ReplyDeleteOk, those fig leaf or maple leap tidy whities are cracking me up! Way to to go being the first to come up with "Silly go lucky!" :)
ReplyDeletebeenzzz, yep i know, like i said to jd...what cracks me up even more than the undies themselves is that the guys look like their having so much fun wearing them. HAHA! little boys running around in their skivvies! LOL!
ReplyDeleteand actually, they came up with silly go lucky before i did! i just called them copycats because i didnt know about it ;) hahah!! i guess i was the first one to have the domain sillygolucky, tho! =)
